NHL’s GolTenders Alexander stands with Ovechakin when he is getting closer to breaking the all -time goal scoring record of Wayne Greatzki. Ovekhakin, who is currently the captain of Washington Capitals, has drawn the attention of the hockey world by reaching second place in NHL history. But the most interesting thing is that goalkeepers, who are usually opposed to them, are also supporting them in their journey.
Greatzki’s record and Ovechakin’s visit
Wayne Greatzki has set the biggest record of NHL by scoring 894 goals in his career. Ovekhakin has scored 800 goals so far and if he continues to play at this speed, he can break this record. However, this is not easy, as the OV (as they are called lovingly) are now 37 years old, and the scoring speed can slow down over time.
Why do goals want Ovechakin to succeed?
Typically, goalkeepers work is to stop shooters, but many Golteanders have admitted that they enjoy watching Ovechakin’s goals, even if they are against them.
- Mark-Randre Flery (Minnesota Wild) said: “OV is a legend. When he shoots, you know it can be a wonderful goal. I want him to break Greatzki’s record.”
- Carry Price (Montreal Canadians) said: “His shot is incredible. I have scored many goals of his, but I appreciate his talent.”
- Andre Wasilavsky (Tempa Bay Lightning) said: “He is a special player. Everyone wants to see him making history.”
Will Ovechakin be able to break the record?
Ovechakin currently needs about 90 goals and to cross the record of Greatzki. If he continues to score 30-40 goals per season, he can achieve this feat in 2-3 seasons. However, there is a risk of age and injuries.
